Cellphone has become a big issue in our present day world, which have gone so far in enhancing easy and fast communication in all part of the world. Cell phone coming into schooling system, has it advantage and also disadvantage. In this content, We are to look at both the advantages and disadvantages of cellphone in nawadays school.
Let's give the meaning of cellphone.
Cellullar telephone: cellullar telephone can be define as a mobile two-way communication device which can be used for making voice call, video call and for browsing.
Cellphone can be used for many perpose which include;
• Making voice and video calls
• Sending and receiving text messages
• Taking pictures and videos
• Sharing informations through social media
• Accessing the internet, chatting and downloading Apps for the phone
• Playing games
• Storing and running files
• Playing musics and watching movies. etc.
PROPOSING VIEWS.
Here are Strong reasons why students should be allowed to make us of their cellullar telephone in school.
Cellphone can serve as an emergency tool: Children or Students are prone to many predators while in school or off the campus, children kidnappers are on the rise, so for a student to easily contact some one when subjected to a sudden case, such student must be with a communication on device which is a phone. Thus, in order to curb the rate of distractions caused by phone students might be allowed to make use of botton phones which is less advanced.
• For internet easy access:
Students sometimes need the internet to do strong research over some education related topics. Some smart student during their leasure time need something aside from the school subjects to keep themselves busy. So when students are allowed to make use of their phones in school they might always make research on school related stuffs. Which will also help boost their level of thinking as well as their performance in school and outside the school.
• Creates opportunity for social learning:
Schools can use social media to engage students with others. Then they get to express themselves in areas they can't in person or to a multitude. This can also help improve students self- awareness since students are expected to know not just about education but also other trendings.
• Cellphones can serve as an alternative to buying books: In this case not only students but everyone nowadays want everything portable and easier.
Students can download free books and other course related materials from the internet on their mobile phone. Students also can download other study related Apps like dictionary, E-notebooks for free online, This might cost more if purchased manual method i.e buying of books.
• Organize students: Through the use of cellphone,students can create organized note folders, student can also study in free time with the help of E-books on the cellphone.
• Cellphone can be used to pass relevant informations: Relevant informations sometimes can be passed to students through text messages. As every students memory is not equal, some students have a short time memory in the sense that when an urgent and improtant message is passed to students orally some can easily forget, but when such information are passed inform of text message,since it's already on the phone students and parents can easily access the information at any time.
OPPOSING VIEWS.
Strong reasons why student shouldn't be allowed to make use of cellullar telephones in school.
• Distraction:
Exposing students to the use of cellphone will authomathicaly cause distractions. Students might spend all day pressing phone instead of studying hard. Even when the school gives regulation on when students should make use of phones, some students will definitely go contrally to the school regulation. So it best to bann students from using cellphone while they are in school.
• Cheating during exam:
Some students tend to act smart during exam. Such student during exam might succeed in smuggling in their phone during an exam which will be used during the exam, probably to access the internet for answers since the internet contains almost every thing. Such student will always find it difficult to study for any exam whether in school or outside school. But in a situation where cellphone are not allowed in school, such students will first think of how tito smuggle it into the school before thinking of smuggling it into the exam Hall, such students might be discourages by this thought.
• Pornography:
Sometimes, during free period in school when there are no teacher in the classroom some students might engage in watching pornographic movies and videos, students sometime might try to practice what they have seen on phones. This have also increase the level corruption among young people. This can also withdraw the interest of a student from learning.
• Distraction: students might go about chatting with other students, since they would not be allowed to speak during class lecture as that would bring about noice making. Student go about typing messages, focusing on the phone will lecture is going in the classroom.
Opinion:- For cellphone to be allowed in school, there must be a strict regulation governing the use of Cellphone in school, which may include
Time for using phone, type of phone to be used, types of Apps in phone that is to be used. etc.
